Interstim® System

Medtronic Bladder Control Therapy for Urge Incontinence

Using a process called sacral neuromodulation, the Interstim® System is a small neurostimulator implanted in the upper buttock. This device imparts mild electrical pulses to the sacral nerve area, targeting the disconnect between the brain and the nerves that control the bladder. When the brain and bladder are communicating, the muscles controlling urine voiding and retention can function properly.

FDA Approved since 1997, InterStim® Medtronic Bladder Control Therapy is an option for patients who have tried other medical or behavioral treatments, but could not tolerate the effects or achieved little to no results. This treatment option has been clinically proven to improve bladder control problems such as leakage, retention, urgency, and frequency.

An evaluation is the first step in the process. Dr. Atwell and his staff consult with patients to review the risks and benefits of this minimally invasive surgical procedure. To schedule a consultation, contact Vero urology Center.
